Sunset Dumortierite Heirloom Rosary (8MM)
Dumortierite is a stone which closely resembles Lapis Lazuli and Sodalite. The difference is that dumortierite has a fiberous structure, with flecks of quartz rather than pyrite. It is also much harder that these other gemstones, with a hardness between topaz and corundum. Being harder than most common materials, this stone is virtually scratch resistant. Dumortierite comes in a variety of blue to purplish-blue shades: I use Sunset Dumortierite in this rosary, a lighter version of this mineral having a deep denim hue. My Hail Mary beads are 8mm rounds and my Our Fathers Beads are 8x16mm barrels.
The Crucifix and center are solid bronze antique reproductions. The 20 g solid brass wire is hand-turned.
